The LGBT community has long supported arts and cultural groups and the MDGLCC has a wealth of such organizations in its membership. To lend our support, each quarter the MDGLCC coordinates an activity at one of our cultural arts members. This activity might include attending a new play / musical, the opening of a new art exhibit, and / or viewing a film. Whatever the cause, Miami-Dade is rich in quality and quantity of Cultural Arts and the MDGLCC leverages on that to conduct its SOCAM events.
Join us for an exclusive after-hours SOCAM event at The Wolfsonian–FIU. Curator Silvia Barisione will be on hand to answer questions and provide some behind-the-scenes insight into her exhibition, Modern Dutch Design. Beer, wine, spirits and snacks will be served in the cafe.
Modern Dutch Design | November 18, 2016–June 11, 2017
During the period 1890–1940, the Netherlands built a reputation—which it still holds today—as a center for innovative design. Modern Dutch Design draws from The Wolfsonian’s extensive collection of Dutch furniture, decorative arts, design drawings, posters and book bindings, in order to examine the evolution of design in the Netherlands during these decades. The exhibition focuses on how Dutch designers, architects, and artists responded to radical shifts in social and political life, worked to promote international travel and trade, and found inspiration in the cultures of the country’s overseas colonies, as they developed a succession of unique styles.
