The Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC) is partnering with The YES Institute to offer the Young Professionals Network (YPN) as well as to the South Florida business community at large an interactive dialogue on workplace INCLUSION, EQUITY & BELONGING.  Together we?ll reflect on gender, orientation, race, and ethnicity, and how our lived experiences correlate with employee satisfaction. Participants will engage with guest speakers and learn best practices that can be immediately used in physical and virtual workplace environments.

Like in most MDGLCC virtual functions, time permitting, at this event there will be an opportunity for Networking & Introductions by each participant.  We encourage you to take part of this free webinar and invite others to engage as well in this important dialogue. Dani is frequently invited to present to both corporate and non-profit equity and inclusion affinity groups, medical and mental health professionals, child welfare, law enforcement, university classes, and other organizational leaders. Dani is committed to empowering leaders to drive positive individual and organizational change that fosters belonging and inclusion. As a non-binary person of color, Dani has experienced the pain and invisibility of hiding one?s authentic self and has also experienced the powerful healing and freedom that comes with being vulnerable and authentic with others. Their commitment to equity and inclusion work is so no one ever has to question their self-worth or their sense of belonging, and all people are free to be authentically who they are.


Jennifer Lopez, YES Institute
Jen has always had a passion for working with children, families and communities. Prior to YES Institute, she served as Executive Director of The Child Care Center, Inc., where she oversaw early childhood services for over 130 youth from infancy to Pre-K. Jen engages participants, in both English and Spanish language, in authentic and open conversations about youth safety and healthy development on the topics of gender and orientation. She also oversees the Bullying Prevention Program for Early Childhood professionals and youth ? providing tools to engage in age-appropriate conversations around gender stereotypes, and nurturing a community with feelings of belonging. Jen has a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education & Psychology, and a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction Development from FIU. She is a member of the National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC), and was awarded the 2018 Florida Association of Education of Young Children (FLAEYC) Member Advocate Award.


Umut Dursun, YES Institute
Umut is a former Marine, award-winning saxophonist, and 2011 TFA Miami-Dade Alumni. Inspired by the impact he was able to have as a sergeant in the Marine Corps, Umut chose to use his leadership skills and continue his impact by addressing the most pressing issue facing our country today: educational inequity. His great passion is to open conversations that empower people to express themselves authentically and bring awareness to changes needed in order to create equality for all individuals. As a high school teacher he noticed disparities in mental health access and the impact this has on educational outcomes. He left the classroom to work in suicide and anti-bullying prevention and has partnered with school districts across the country to support the creation and implementation of anti-bullying policies that address the needs of students impacted by gender and sexuality. Sharing from his own experience of transitioning after being assigned ?female? at birth, Umut is a highly requested speaker at conferences around the country engaging audiences that range from teenagers and college students, educators and school systems leaders, to mental health and medical professionals.
