Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Race for the Cure
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® is part of the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, designed to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer. This year the race will celebrate its 19th anniversary in Miami in support of Susan G. Komen® Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. Each year, the local Affiliate invites supporters, survivors and those in need to join them in a day of celebration. Last year, the event welcomed 30,000 in attendance and raised $1.325 million. Susan G. Komen® Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Seventy-five percent of the Affiliate?s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for uninsured, medically underserved women in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The remaining twenty-five percent supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
