David Jewett - Dancer
Raised in Miami, Florida, David Jewett attended a Charter Arts High School located in the heart of Coconut Grove. As a student at the Academy of Arts and Minds Charter High School, David double-majored in Dance as well as Visual Arts; under the direction of the current New World School of the Arts faculty Karin Bejerano, and Julliard alumna Hannah Baumgarten. After school hours, David sought additional training at the Classical Ballet of Miami specializing in the Alonso Method/Cuban method. He also trained at the Coconut Grove Ballet where he passed the ABT National Training Curriculum student examination in Level 4A with High Honors. David continued his studies at the conservatory; University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he completed his BFA in the concentration of Contemporary Dance. He has had the opportunity to dance in the works of Anouk Van Dyke, Merce Cunningham, Jose Limon, & Martha Graham, restaged by former company artist Sean Sullivan and former principal Maurizio Nardi. These works include Jose Limon's A "Choreographic Offering," and Martha Graham's "Acts of Light", "Chronicle," and "Maple Leaf Rag." During his pre-professional years, David attended dance intensive training at Joffrey Ballet (Miami), Los Angeles Ballet, Boca Ballet Theatre, and the Martha Graham School. Most recently, David danced the role of "El Indio" in Jose Limon's La Malinche, presented in a joint performance with DNM and the Limon Dance Company.Images
