• Meet Alex Tonarelli, Managing Director, Loews Miami Beach Hotel

  • As Managing Director of Loews Miami Beach Hotel, Alex Tonarelli oversees all aspects of property management for the 790-room, four-star, oceanfront resort including daily hotel operations, overall financial performance, guest satisfaction and team member development.  A seasoned hospitality executive, Alex has worked at three of South Florida’s top hotels over the past 25 years, including the Fontainebleau Hilton, Doral Golf Resort & Spa and Loews Miami Beach Hotel – the landmark South Beach property he’s called home for 18 years.

Throughout his career in hospitality, Tonarelli has made giving back, partnering with the community and the Miami-Dade education system a priority. His passion for these initiatives has led them to become part of the cultural framework of the hotels for which he has worked. Whether during his time on the GMCVB VIC Board, teaching hospitality courses as an Adjunct Professor at Miami-Dade Community College; guest speaking at FIU to Undergraduate and Masters classes; or participating in good neighbor programs at Loews Miami Beach Hotel, Alex’s proven commitment to giving back has made an impact.

Through the creation of Loews Miami Beach Hotel’s Celebrity Golf Tournament, the hotel and its team members are able to generate funds that directly benefit Miami-Dade County education programs.  Now in its 9th year, the event has raised more than $425,000 benefiting DonorsChoose.org, the Foundation for New Education Initiatives and the Ray of Hope Foundation. Alex is also heavily involved in the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, with Loews Miami Beach Hotel acting as host hotel for the national culinary event for 17 years and counting.

Beyond education, Alex is an advocate of driving tourism to Miami and the Beaches, continuously partnering with stakeholders within the destination to find ways to bring more business to the area.  He serves as Chair of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau GM Convention Sales Committee, Chairman of the Board of the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hospitality Association and is on the Board of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce.  Alex has also participated in several Citywide Task Force groups, including the Blue Ribbon Task Force to improve Ocean Drive and MB Resilient Cities.  He also currently sits on Florida International University’s President’s Council, his alma mater
